Albert Piddington was born in Ealing in 1863, his father William was a garden labourer. Albert inherited his father’s green fingers & can be found on the 1881 census as a gardener living with his widowed mother Ann Smith, who took in laundry to make ends meet.
Albert married Mary Elizabeth King in October 1881 at St John’s Church, Ealing. They had three children Albert jnr in 1882, Emma in 1884 & Ted in 1887. About 1892 Albert gave up his job as a gardener & the family moved above 11 The Parade, Hanwell, where Albert opened a fruiterer and florist shop.
Sadly Mary E died in 1894 at the age of just 30. Albert remarried in 1896 to a Welsh girl Mary C Williams, they had one son Archibald.
About 1906 Albert decided he had, had enough of shop life or perhaps he just missed the great outdoors as he Mary C & son Archibald moved to Machynlleth, Wales, where Albert took a job as a gardener at Glandyfi Castle.
Albert died in the grounds of the castle in 1927.
Two of Albert’s children Emma & Ted emigrated to Australia.
Albert’s son Albert jnr, had remained in Ealing after marring a local girl Kate Harris in 1905.
